Jewish Fund donates $846,000 to local groups

The Jewish Fund on Monday announced $846,000 in grants to local organizations.
The fund, established in 1997 from the proceeds of the sale of Sinai Hospital, supports health and social welfare needs of the Jewish community and general population in Metro Detroit.
The Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Detroit in Bloomfield Hills garnered the largest grant of $600,000 to respond to demand for emergency assistance services.
Other grants were:
- $133,5000 challenge grant over three years to the Fresh Air Society in Bloomfield Hills to support the expansion of the special needs inclusion program at Camp Maas.
- $100,000 challenge grant to Working Together/Jewish Hospice & Chaplaincy Network in West Bloomfield to leverage additional funds to meet unprecedented demand for hospice and palliative care.
- $70,000 over two years to Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metropolitan Detroit to support the launch of a mentoring program focused on physical well being through sports, fitness and nutritional education.
- $65,000 over three years to Hope Hospitality & Warming Center in Pontiac to fund extended operation of the shelter and enhance fundraising efforts.
- $61,000 to Yad Ezra, an Oak Park emergency food program to meet increased demand for free groceries.
- $45,000 over three years Starfish Family Services in Inkster to provide initial funding for individual and group counseling and mental health services for youth in crisis and transitional living programs.
